Greetings to the Gungahlin Uniting community
This coming Sunday is the Second Sunday of Advent and our theme is JOY. In the introduction to “God with Us – Reflections for Advent – 2017” it says “JOY is not the frothy delight of escapism, but the serene joy of those who can sail over the seas of turbulent times with tranquillity.” Jesus’ humble birth occurred in turbulent times, but the event prompted angels to burst into song. May we be moved to sing joyously about the alternative way of God coming among us to heal a broken world.

Isaiah 65:17-25; Psalm 80:1-7,17-19
Mark 13: 24-37

This coming Sunday is the first Sunday in Advent and our theme is HOPE. In the foreword to our “Reflections for Advent” it says “HOPE is not the escapist hope of returning to an imagined better past, but the living hope of a new future where equity and justice flower”. The birth of Jesus signifies that God’s new future for all humanity is about to be “born” – good cause to shout “Alleluia!”

Matthew 25:31-46
Greetings to the Gungahlin Uniting community
This coming Sunday reminds us that we celebrate endings (e.g. the Christian year) as we get ready to celebrate beginnings (Advent and the Birth of Jesus). This Sunday is known as “Christ the King” Sunday – when we recall the good news that Jesus reigns in our hearts and in the world as the servant king. No better way than to finish the “year” with another parable (the separation of the sheep and goats) where the nations are called to account to a God of love.

Bible Readings
Judges 4:1-7; Psalm 123
Matthew 25:14-30
“For everyone who has will be given more, and they will have enough and to spare; and everyone who has nothing, even what they have will be taken away.”
Matthew 25:29
WELL DONE GOOD, AND FAITHFUL SERVANT
Today’s parable of the talents again appears to turn things upside down. Being servants does not bring privilege, status or anything to glory in. Being servants means having responsibility. Those who do not share what they have been entrusted with are harshly admonished.
We are a community on a journey, we’ve grown from a small faith community planted in Ngunnawal in the early years of Gungahlin’s development to a thriving inclusive, intergenerational & multicultural community. As Gungahlin has grown we have seen a lot of change.
We are an open and inclusive community, everyone is welcome to use their gifts in worship, prayer, leadership, hospitality and teaching.

Worship is for all ages, (0 to 93!) and seeks to be meaningful in different ways for us all.
In Jesus Christ we see how he drew near to each and all and so we hope our worship expresses this nearness too.
We worship at the Gungahlin Uniting Church & Community Centre.
