That on 21 June 2009, when this congregation was still meeting at Ngunnawal Primary School, our special guest preacher for Refugee Sunday was the Rev Dr Jonathan Barker? At the time he was described as a person who had experience of working with refugees in detention centres in South Australia and was instrumental at Pilgrim Uniting Church, Adelaide, in setting up a ‘Circle of Friends’ who visited Baxter Detention Centre and supported many refugees on release.
A Message from the JNC
Calling a new minister: The Joint Nominating Committee, which was elected by the GUC congregation to seek a new minister, has met several times. They have already met with one person for a conversation and have an appointment to meet a second person. When there are signs of a possible good match between a minister and GUC, there will be further conversations with that person. In time, a name will be brought to the congregation for confirmation. While this work is going on, we are grateful to have the ministry of Rev Dr Jonathan Barker over the next few months.

Our Church at Prayer …
Inviting you to think about our own church community the wider church, the world!
- We give thanks for those who have supported our Oasis work this year-Ngaire, Lori, Priscilla and Dawn. Pray as we continue to seek others who may be interested in being a part of this ministry. We also pray for those who are teachers in our congregation in the demands of their work.
- This week we pray for Greenhills Camp and Conference Centre. Pray for God’s wisdom in the search for new managers.
- This week we pray for Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali, Mauritania and Niger- for political and economic stability and an end to human rights abuses and slavery in Mauritania. And for those who suffer from lack of water and food, particularly in desert regions.
