Today at Gungahlin Uniting Church
Welcome to Gungahlin Uniting. Today we all remain in worship together as we share in communion and reflect on the word of God in creative ways. Everyone who is with us today is welcome to receive the bread and wine as an expression of your faith in Jesus Christ.
Bible Studies and Conversations at GUC on the Gospel of Luke.
Starting next Sunday evening at 5pm you are invited to come along to Bible Conversations on the Gospel of Luke. Luke is the Gospel that is the focus of our Advent readings and most of our reading throughout 2013 so this is a great opportunity for study, conversation and learning about this book. Participating in the life of Gungahlin Uniting in 2013 and election of Church Council
At Gungahlin Uniting we give thanks for the many many people who volunteer their time to support our life and mission. You are invited to fill in the form with all the jobs that need to be done as part of our church life! In addition we are asking about small groups and you are invited to fill in that sheet too.
As part of this, each year we also ask people to think about who they would like on our Church Council. The Church Council is the group that represents the congregation and oversees all direction, business and, at this stage, the property for us all. It is up to the congregation to consider and discern who should be on our Church Council. Members on the Church Council should be people who have the following skills and gifts.
- Are able to listen and work alongside others.
- Are willing to build the congregation up in faith and love.
- Are able to reflect creatively on the challenges of being the church in a secular society.
- Are able to support the Minister in his role and work.
You are invited to prayerfully discern who you believe have the skills and gifts to be leaders on the Council. Please put all your forms for participation, small groups, and Church Council nominations in the Gold Box in the foyer.
Blessing our Neighbours – Mission in our local communities
This Tuesday, 16th., at 7.30pm here at Gungahlin Uniting Church, there is a gathering and conversation across churches of all denominations about being engaged in mission in our local communities. This conversation will include consideration of food pantries and their place as part of community and mission. One of the ‘interviews’ will be with people from St. Pauls Spence who operate the Helping Hand Pantry, which some of us visited as we considered our own. If you would like to come along… please feel free. It will be down to earth, engaging and conversational.
Blackout 2012
All around the world young people will be speaking loudly for Persecution by giving up their voice, their mobiles, social networking and other forms of communication. Blackout is all about supporting the persecuted church in a tangible way with both financial and prayer support. Blackout is asking people to give up something like Facebook, email, mobile phones, twitter, computer games, speaking or TV for 48 hours and to raise money in doing so!
This year Claire Warren will be participating in the very first Blackout by going completely without Facebook, email, mobile phones, twitter computer games AND speaking for 48 hours from the 2nd to the 4th of November. If you are interested in taking part or finding out more, have a chat to her.
