Welcome to Gungahlin Uniting Church
God draws close to us in life in many different ways – we hope that in this community you have the opportunity to ponder God’s presence and find encouragement and peace. Everyone is welcome; this is not a club of like-minded people, but a place that reflects the breadth of humanity and the diversity of opinion and experience. At Gungahlin Uniting we usually have morning tea in the middle of worship followed by different groups for different ages, however during the school holidays most groups will be on break.
Mark on Holidays…
Our Minister Mark will be away for the next two weeks over the school term break.
The place where he is going will be 25 degrees today!!!
If you have any needs over this time please speak with:
Shirley (62419563) or Ron (62623677).
Open Church Council Meeting
Every year we try to provide a couple of opportunities for anyone in the congregation to come along and gather with the Church Council. At Gungahlin Uniting we have a Church Council of 8 people including the Minister who oversee the life of the congregation. The Church Council’s role is to represent the wider congregation and encourage its life and faith. But we do need the be in relationship with the whole congregation so you are invited to come along to our Open Church Council meeting on Thursday 24th. July. At this meeting we will discuss in part how we manage our facilities and the way we give to the wider church and world.
Mustard Seed Uniting Food Pantry and Companion House
Over the past weeks the food pantry has been approached by Companion House as a way of supporting refugees. Companion House support refugees especially those who have suffered torture and trauma. Representatives from Companion House have visited the pantry twice, including the Deputy Director, Jenny McLellan, and have met with our coordinators. Of course we want to embrace this partnership and a system is being worked out whereby groups of refugees who come for food can present multiple vouchers equivalent to $1 after which we will invoice Companion House to be reimbursed. A volunteer is needed to cut out the vouchers and deliver them this week to Companion House. If you would be willing please see Mark. If you have any questions or comments please speak with Susan, Shirley, or Mark.
Our Pentecost Banner
The current banner is a cascade of God’s love and promised Holy Spirit. The banner is made of items of celebration (party plates and ribbon) and the circles represent God in his completeness and eternal existence.
The upside down hearts are the pouring down of His love, and also the tongues of fire, i.e. The manifestation of the Holy Spirit, which was promised by Christ to the church.
The promise is represented by the holes of the hearts in the plates.
First Sunday Converse and Café
Today from 6pm-7.30pm we have our First Sunday Converse and Café. Everyone is welcome to come along for relaxed faith conversation, a time of quiet worship, to listen to music and pray. This is followed by an easy meal down at a local café.
Kairos Outside for Women
Thank you to the members of this congregation who have supported this inter-church ministry to women who have experienced having someone close to them in prison. Your prayers, colouring in of posters, financial help and interest have been greatly appreciated.
Bookcase
In the Quiet Room, you will find a bookcase with a range of books. They are all pre-loved books, mostly with Christian themes, that the previous owners are happy to share with you. Feel free to browse any time, or take a book home to read. You will find devotional books, biographies, social commentary and other material.
