Another wonderful day was had at our Food Pantry on Thursday. With a steady flow of customers throughout the morning we had a chance to have lovely conversations and catch-ups with many. We welcomed a new evening volunteer for her first shift this week, rejoiced with a few customers who had found new jobs and sat with a few who needed a listening ear.
We harvested our first crops from the Food Garden- a few handfuls of cherry tomatoes and some onions. Along with our customers we rejoiced in this milestone and the vegies were snapped up quickly and excitedly.
We feasted on Zucchini Slice in the Cafe made from the many weird and wonderful shaped zucchinis donated to us from our friends at The Crace Community Garden. Many customers took zucchinis and the recipe to make this dish at home.
We also received a phone call during the morning to let us know that the Brumby’s Bakery in Gungahlin would like to donate their bread to us on Monday evenings. How good is that!
Our Food Pantry is constantly changing and growing, in more ways than just customer numbers. We now look forward to our next challenge- the building extension, the tool we will use to help serve others and truly make the word ” love” a verb.
