This year I wrote two reports for the Annual Report. The first I scrapped half way through, and then began on the one that is in the final report; reflecting on Mary and Martha. Earlier in this past week I went to the Presbytery Minister’s retreat, where the passage chose for our reflection was again Mary and Martha. This simply reaffirmed what I had written in my report on the hope that Advent would be a time of reflection and stillness for us as a congregation, even amongst the business of our work and the approaching season of Christmas. Throughout November, each Sunday on 6th, 13th, 20th, I will reflect in my message on Mary and Martha; the one who is busy with many things and the one who sits at the feet of Jesus. Each week I will give a short reflection, we will have a time of silence and then I will repeat my short reflection. Although silence is not easy for everyone, and the idea of hearing a reflection twice is a bit different, it is my hope that through these times we will find a moment to pause in the business of our weeks and lives and through this draw ourselves closer to the presence of Christ.
