Lenten giving @ Gungahlin Uniting Church
Throughout Lent this year you are invited to consider giving in ways that are important in the life of our congregation. There are a few ways you can give. One is through our friend Maggie Nangolo who supports her home community in Namibia. The other is through the Agape Home in Thailand.
Engela community in Namibia.
Maggie comes from Engela; her home community in Namibia. She came from a family of 12 children, of which there are only 6 surviving. So now the whole family has to provide for all the children, a big family, and work and income is scarce. In addition Maggie helps other orphans who have been left alone because of AIDS. If you would like to support these families, then you can bring to church any of the following:
– Reading books for children aged 6-15.
– School exercise books and pencils.
– Shirts, shorts, dresses or shoes for children aged 6-15.
– After Easter our church will send your gifts to Engala in Namibia.
Agape Home in Chiang Mai Thailand.
Gungahlin Uniting has supported the Agape Home in Thailand for many years. This home is for children who are orphaned because of HIV. As part of our giving we have been asked if we could raise $100 to provide a dinner out for 5 couples who are house parents at Agape. Each couple look after their own children as well as orphans from the home. Jane Arnott from Agape home wrote to us… “The House Parents are doing a great job and I thought that some sort of recognition and encouragement would be a real gift to them… Even if the house parents got to go out and eat dinner together… I’m sure it would be special”. If we were to raise more than $100, then your money will go towards a photo album that is given to each child when they are adopted. The album is full of photographs of a child growing while they are at Agape and helps them remember their life, just as we take photographs of our own children and families.
To Give…
Just bring in your gifts each Sunday. Clothing/books can be put at the door with the food basket all of which will be brought forward as part of our offering in worship. Please use the envelope provided and place it in the offering bag if you wish to donate to the Agape Home.
